1. Enquadramento e objetivos


1.1. Sobre a Associação Cultural Rock’n’Cave

A Rock’n’Cave é uma associação cultural sem fins lucrativos, fundada em 1997, que tem por objetivo promover, divulgar e dinamizar a cultura em todas as suas vertentes. Ao longo de mais de duas décadas temos vindo a desenvolver a criação, produção e apresentação de espetáculos, eventos e festivais, colaborando regularmente na curadoria e gestão de projetos culturais. Contribuímos com todas as nossas iniciativas para que a cultura profundamente radicada na criação contemporânea marque presença viva e multiplicadora na sociedade.

1.2. O que é a Fanzinoteca Rock’n’Cave?

A Fanzinoteca Rock’n’Cave é um acervo de fanzines com mais de 20 anos que continua em crescimento. É intenção da Associação Cultural Rock’n’Cave recolher o maior número possível de fanzines, nacionais e estrangeiros, e com eles constituir um arquivo vivo em constante atualização, conservação e consulta, e com potencial dinamizador de atividades paralelas, como conferências, exposições, ações de formação, entre outras. Na Fanzinoteca da Rock’n’Cave é possível consultar fanzines de vários cantos do mundo (Espanha, França, Finlândia, Lituânia, EUA, Canadá, entre muitos outros) e sobre os mais variados temas, como música, banda desenhada, natureza, bizarro, feminismo e literatura.

1.3. Exposição de Fanzines 2024

Desde 1997, a Associação Cultural Rock’n’Cave tem recolhido fanzines de todo o mundo sobre os mais diversos temas e com as mais bizarras estéticas, criando a primeira fanzinoteca portuguesa e a segunda da Europa. Com o objetivo de partilhar publicamente este grande acervo, a Fanzinoteca Rock’n’Cave organizou em 2023 a sua primeira Exposição de Fanzines na Elevadora, em Paredes de Coura.
Dado o sucesso desta primeira exposição, teremos nova edição em 2024, onde será possível ver e consultar fanzines que fazem parte desta Fanzinoteca mas também fanzines novos, candidatos ao Concurso de Fanzines que será promovido em paralelo, com o objetivo de apoiar a produção de novas edições.

Os fanzines a concurso ficarão expostos nas duas exposições que vamos promover este ano - as edições que chegarem até 10 de julho serão incluídas na exposição de Paredes de Coura, e as que chegarem até 30 de agosto serão incluídos na exposição de Castelo de Paiva.

1.4. Porquê um concurso de fanzines?

Os fanzines, de baixo custo e fácil produção, são uma forma democrática de edição, em que o seu autor é inteiramente responsável pelo seu conteúdo, sem que sejam submetidos a qualquer crivo editorial, e portanto acreditamos que deve ser promovida a sua produção, circulação e arquivo.

O concurso e a exposição pretendem divulgar o trabalho de quem continua a fazer fanzines e simultaneamente promover a Fanzinoteca Rock’n’Cave, posicionando Paredes de Coura como um centro para os aficionados desta forma de produção editorial de autor. O principal objetivo é estimular esta forma de produção, comprometendo-nos a incluir todos os trabalhos recebidos na exposição, num espaço aberto para consulta dos mesmos.  

2. Elegibilidade


Os participantes podem concorrer a título individual ou colectivo, sem limites geográficos. Os fanzines não devem violar ou infringir os direitos de outras pessoas, incluindo, mas não limitado, aos direitos de autor.

3. Direitos de Autor


A participação no Concurso de Fanzines 2024 implica, por parte dos concorrentes:

  • garantir que é o único titular de todos os direitos sobre os conteúdos apresentados a concurso;
  • autorizar a utilização da fanzine enviada nesta e em quaisquer futuras exposições organizadas pela Associação, assim como a sua divulgação para fins promocionais;
  • manter a responsabilidade por qualquer reclamação, queixa ou demanda de terceiros, isentando a Associação de qualquer responsabilidade.

4. Proteção de dados


A participação no concurso mediante a apresentação de candidatura pressupõe o consentimento para a recolha, utilização, registo e tratamento dos dados pessoais do candidato fornecidos. A informação disponibilizada ao público nas exposições físicas e virtuais é unicamente relativa ao fanzine, excetuando o nome, biografia, país e contacto do autor.


5. Como participar


Esta convocatória destina-se a autores nacionais e internacionais, de qualquer idade e país. As propostas poderão ser apresentadas a título individual ou colectivo, e em qualquer língua. O preenchimento do formulário deverá ser feito somente em inglês, português ou espanhol.

Os fanzines concorrentes devem ser enviadas por correio para o endereço indicado abaixo, até ao dia 30 de agosto, com preenchimento simultâneo do seguinte formulário: bit.ly/fanzine-contest-2024-form.

Os candidatos serão notificados aquando da receção da mesma pela equipa da Rock’n’Cave. Só depois da receção do fanzine por correio e desta confirmação é que está assegurada a participação no concurso e nas exposições.

6. Deliberação do Júri


  • Os fanzines candidatos serão submetidos à avaliação de um Júri, ao qual competirá decidir, em deliberação própria, as candidaturas vencedoras.
  • O Júri será composto por figuras independentes de várias áreas da cultura, convidadas para o efeito pela Associação Cultural Rock’n’Cave.
  • A Associação comunicará a todos os candidatos o resultado da deliberação do Júri por e-mail remetido para o endereço indicado no formulário aquando da candidatura.
  • Os resultados do concurso serão divulgados, até 15 de setembro.
  • Da deliberação do Júri não caberá reclamação nem recurso.
  • Critérios de avaliação: serão valorizados a originalidade do formato, a atualidade e interesse dos conteúdos, a profundidade editorial, entre outros critérios relacionados com questões estéticas.

7. Prémios


Os fanzines concorrem a dois prémios no valor de 250€ cada, que visam apoiar a produção de novas edições dos mesmos, ou de novos zines, por parte dos autores vencedores. 50% do valor mencionado será entregue aquando da atribuição do prémio, e o restante na entrega da nova edição. Todos os zines enviados farão parte da Fanzinoteca, figurando no seu site e em futuras exposições, incluindo a exposição deste ano.

1. Background and objectives


1.1 About the Rock'n'Cave Cultural Association

Rock'n'Cave is a non-profit cultural association founded in 1997 with the aim of promoting, disseminating and energizing culture in all its forms. For more than two decades we have been creating, producing and presenting shows, events and festivals, regularly collaborating in the curation and management of cultural projects. With all our initiatives, we help to ensure that culture deeply rooted in contemporary creation has a living and multiplying presence in society.

1.2. What is Fanzinoteca Rock'n'Cave?

The Rock'n'Cave Fanzine Library is a collection of fanzines over 20 years old that is still growing. It is the intention of the Rock'n'Cave Cultural Association to collect as many fanzines as possible, both national and foreign, and use them to create a living archive that is constantly being updated, preserved and consulted, and which has the potential to stimulate parallel activities such as conferences, exhibitions, training sessions, among others. In the Rock'n'Cave Fanzine Library, you can consult fanzines from all over the world (Spain, France, Finland, Lithuania, USA, Canada, among many others) and on a wide variety of subjects, such as music, comics, nature, the bizarre, feminism and literature.

1.3 Fanzine Exhibition 2024

Since 1997, the Rock'n'Cave Cultural Association has been collecting fanzines from all over the world on the most diverse themes and with the most bizarre aesthetics, creating the first Portuguese fanzine library and the second in Europe. With the aim of sharing this large collection publicly, Fanzinoteca Rock'n'Cave organized its first Fanzine Exhibition at Elevadora in Paredes de Coura in 2023.

Given the success of this first exhibition, we will have a new edition in 2024, where it will be possible to see and consult fanzines that are part of this Fanzine Library but also new fanzines, candidates for the Fanzine Competition that will be promoted in parallel, with the aim of supporting the production of new editions. The fanzines in the competition will be exhibited at the two exhibitions we're promoting this year - the editions that arrive by July 10 will be included in the Paredes de Coura exhibition, and those that arrive by August 30 will be included in the Castelo de Paiva exhibition.

1.4 Why a fanzine competition?
Fanzines, which are low-cost and easy to produce, are a democratic form of publishing in which the author is entirely responsible for their content, without being subjected to any editorial screening, and we therefore believe that their production, circulation and archiving should be promoted.

The competition and exhibition aim to publicize the work of those who continue to make fanzines and simultaneously promote the Fanzinoteca Rock'n'Cave, positioning Paredes de Coura as a center for fans of this form of authored publishing. The main objective is to stimulate this form of production, and we are committed to including all the works received in the exhibition, in an open space where they can be consulted.

2. Eligibility


Participants can apply individually or collectively, without geographical limits. Fanzines must not violate or infringe the rights of others, including but not limited to copyright.

3. Copyright


Participation in the Fanzine Competition 2024 implies that the contestants:

  • guaranteeing that they are the sole owner of all rights to the content submitted to the competition;
  • authorizing the use of the submitted fanzine in this and any future exhibitions organized by the Association, as well as its dissemination for promotional purposes;
  • maintain responsibility for any claim, complaint or demand from third parties, exempting the Association from any liability whatsoever.

4. Data protection


Participation in the competition by submitting an application presupposes consent to the collection, use, recording and processing of the applicant's personal data provided. The information made available to the public in physical and virtual exhibitions is solely related to the fanzine, with the exception of the author's name, biography, country and contact details.

5. How to participate


This call for proposals is aimed at national and international authors of any age and from any country. Proposals may be submitted individually or collectively, and in any language. The form must be completed in English, Portuguese or Spanish only.

The competing fanzines must be sent by post to the address below by August 30, while filling in the following form: bit.ly/fanzine-contest-2024-form.

Applicants will be notified upon receipt by the Rock'n'Cave team. Participation in the competition and exhibitions is only guaranteed once the fanzine has been received by post and confirmed.

6. Jury decision


  • The candidate fanzines will be evaluated by a Jury, which will decide, in its own deliberation, on the winning entries.
  • The Jury will be made up of independent figures from various areas of culture, invited for this purpose by the Rock'n'Cave Cultural Association.
  • The Association will notify all applicants of the result of the Jury's decision by e-mail to the address indicated on the application form.
  • The results of the competition will be announced by September 15th.
  • There will be no appeal against the Jury's decision.
  • Evaluation criteria: the originality of the format, the topicality and interest of the content, the editorial depth, among other criteria related to aesthetic issues, will be valued.

7. Prizes


The fanzines are up for two prizes of €250 each, which are intended to support the production of new editions or new zines by the winning authors. 50% of this amount will be paid when the prize is awarded and the rest when the new edition is delivered.
All the zines submitted will become part of the Fanzinoteca, appearing on its website and in future exhibitions, including this year's exhibition.
